The Mayan palaces and stelae here are worth visiting. If you are interested in Mayan archaeology, this entire area is filled with ruins of pyramids, palaces, ballcourts and beautiful stone sculptures. The Mayan hieroglyphic writing at Aguateca and nearby Dos Pilas are especially photogenic.
